The Krystal Ballroom Dance Studio

Established in 1997

From the beginning the Krystal Ballroom established that the dance studio had elegance.  Starting with the name Krystal, spelled in the Germany fashion to be unique.

The founders, Michael and Deborah Ulbrich, were fortunate to be trained by a successful franchise studio and eventually set out on their own, to continue what they loved.  Teaching ballroom dancing.

Salem, New Hampshire was a perfect place to bring Ballroom, Latin and partner dancing to the community.  With much hard work, determination and sweat equity, Michael carried buckets upon buckets of hardwood flooring to the 2,000 sq ft space on the second floor, determined to up fit the space at 352 South Broadway.  With a 2 year old son (Chris) in tow, Michael and Deborah found a way to open their doors within 2 1/2 months and started their own Krystal Ballroom journey.

As the years waltzed by, Michael knew they had outgrown the space on the 2nd floor, with the corner windows.  The space that so many had taken their first steps on.  The space that wedding couples learned their first dance on, the space that Michael and Deborah took a leap of faith on to make their dreams come true. The space many people had glanced up upon from the parking lot below.  Dreaming of a day that they too would move as gracefully as the dancers they watched from a distance.

It was evident that staying close to the original studio location would be beneficial.  Michael set his eyes on the very unique and perfect next step on 301 South Broadway.

Because a community had grown calling them our “Dance Family”, the New and exciting building was transformed from a TV and Sound System store, to the New Krystal Ballroom Dance Studio.  More than a few students and friends volunteered their time to ensure their new home would be ready to continue their dancing in the larger and more elegant setting.  There would be more space for private lessons, group classes and social parties.

25 years later, the iconic Krystal Ballroom Dance Studio is a staple in the Salem community, bringing a wonderful lifeskill to many who enter.

The diversified members of the staff and students brings a fresh energy that keeps everyone striving for more.

The Krystal Ballroom has always been fortunate to have great professional instructors who share the same passion for ballroom dancing, and they complete the experience that was the vision from the beginning.
